Yesterday my guild did a bounty hunt event on Alderaan where guild members could team up and go after specific targets. The reward was 2 million credits to be split evenly among the team or they could try going solo and get the credits all to themselves. I volunteered along with three others to be on our Republic characters as the targets.
It was interesting and a little nerve wracking because I’m not great at pvp. I don’t have a microphone, so I couldn’t verbally communicate with the guild over voice chat, but while waiting for someone to show up and try to kill my Jedi Knight I could hear some of them saying, “Where are you, Wack?”
I thought, “Oh great. There’s going to be a group of them and they’ll overwhelm me and I’ll die embarrassingly fast.”
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case. A lone Mandalorian found me and we fought for several minutes until my computer froze. By the time I was able to move again my health had dropped significantly low. I couldn’t recover in time and as a result was defeated.
After I reported my death to the guild, I swapped over to my bounty hunter and waited while they finished killing the other targets so we could start the second half of the event and go after the commander in the House Trader’s Circle.
I learned two things from this event. First and foremost, if I ever want to participate in an event like this again, I need to become better at pvp. Our best pvper took out the same group of people who were trying to kill him three times before they finally defeated him. The only people I’ve ever fought against were my own siblings and we know each other so well and how the other fights that we’re all pretty evenly matched. I’m not sure how I’m supposed to get better at pvp. I’m guessing I’ll have to participate in more events and figure it out through trial and error.
The second thing I learned is that I really need a new computer. I have a cheap Windows 8 laptop with a graphics card that is barely compatible with SWTOR. I’ve thought about simply replacing the graphics card, except it would be best to buy a new computer that has a better processor. There are several planets where I have issues with the graphics and Alderaan is one of them. So I’m going to have to start saving up for a gaming computer.
In spite of the fact that my computer was giving me problems, I had a lot of fun with the event and wouldn’t be opposed to trying it again sometime.
